There are two parts of the property for you to enjoy. The garden close to the house, for which you can allow 30 minutes or so, and the forest walk for which you need to allow a leisurely 50 minutes (depending on your desire to sit in the forest on the way).

Te Whau Garden faces north and overlooks Putiki Harbour and Okoka Bay. Highlights include gardens fully planted with subtropicals, perenials, palms, and natives, a moderate grade forest track through coastal broadleaf forest, and a collection of garden art and sculpture.

Visiting Te Whau Garden is relaxed and informal. No bookings are necessary though groups may request a guide in which case booking is essential.

You may choose to picnic - on the wetland lawn area or amongst the forest. Seats are provided.

The paths are not suitable for baby strollers, sorry. And you will need sensible shoes and a sunhat and water in summer. From the island area of the wetland Okoka (or Dead Dog ) Bay is only minutes away if you'd like to swim. It is really important not to bring dogs into this area - it is a sensitive bird nesting site.

Groups may arrange to have a bus or car collect them from the Margaret Reeve Lane entrance - particularly for older people this saves the return walk up to Vintage Lane.

We hope you enjoy this experience.
